HelpAge India organizing International Day of Older Persons – 2022

The United Nations has declared 1st October as the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP). To commemorate this day, HelpAge India is organizing a day- long event on 1st October 2022 (Saturday) at Chennai.
The event started with Tamil Thai Vazthu by school students followed by lighting of lamp by the dignitaries.
Tmt. D. Rathna, I.A.S., Director – Social Welfare and Women Empowerment – Tamilnadu – the Chief Guest presented the HelpAge India 2021-2022 GOLDEN AWARD to Padmashri Dr. V.S. Natarajan – Geriatrician for his service to the welfare of the society and his contribution towards elderly care for over 50 years.
Receiving the award, Dr. V.S. Natarajan thanked HelpAge India for the recognition and said that he would continue his services for the well being of the elderly across the nation. Ms. Usha Venugopal, I.R.AS., Principal Financial Advisor – Ministry of Railways – Government of India, Chennai – Guest of Honor released Health Poster and handed over the same to Old Age Homes. She lauded HelpAge India’s service towards the elderly and wished all success for future endeavors. Mr. Narayanan T S – General Manger – Air Freight Business Development – TVS SCS Global Freight Solutions Limited, Chennai – Special Guest facilitated the Senior Citizens Associations working for the welfare of the elderly. He also taught few simple exercises for keeping good health.
Dr. Nithish Andreyya Raja Singh – Correspondent – SBOA Matric and Higher Secondary School, Chennai -Special Guest Greeted the Octogenarians (above 80 years of age) for their contribution towards their families and society. He said that elderly should be taken care and respected by their children and family members.
The Chief Guest then released the WHEN I AM 75 POSTERS (contest for school children on elderly care) and in her speech appreciated HelpAge India for its commitment towards elderly and said that her department would extend all possible support in providing better
care for the elderly in the state. She added that elderly should remain active and independent.
